Killer cages on a jigsaw sudoku: sums to hit and irregular regions to fill, once a day.

on sudokuwiki.org

Daily Killer Jigsaw Puzzle #796, October 21 (Diabolical) on SudokuWiki: a 9x9 grid of coloured sum cages inside thick irregular region borders, beside level buttons and a number pad

The Daily Killer Jigsaw is SudokuWiki's numbered daily mix of two variants. The nine 3x3 boxes are replaced by irregular regions, shown by thick borders, and the grid is covered in coloured cages whose digits must add up to the small sum in each cage's corner. The page says the new puzzle comes at midnight GMT; in practice it changes at about 03:00 UTC.

About Daily Killer Jigsaw (SudokuWiki)

SudokuWiki.org is Andrew Stuart's sudoku strategy site, and among its numbered daily puzzles the Killer Jigsaw is one of the most demanding. It combines the rules of a jigsaw sudoku, where every row, every column and each of nine irregular regions must hold the digits 1 to 9, with those of a killer sudoku, where coloured cages carry a sum and their digits must add up to it without repeating.

Each puzzle has a number, a date and a difficulty level, #796 and Diabolical on 21 October 2026. The free page gives one grade a day; All-Access Supporters can play all four. The on-page player has a level picker, a number pad, notes that can be prefilled or cleared automatically, undo, redo, a check button, a timer with pause, print versions, and a link to the site's solver if you want to see the logic of a step.

Because the regions are irregular, the familiar 45-per-box sums of a killer sudoku apply to oddly shaped areas, which makes for some unusual deductions.

It suits experienced sudoku players who already enjoy killers and want a harder daily twist.

How to play Daily Killer Jigsaw (SudokuWiki)

  1. Open the Daily Killer Jigsaw on SudokuWiki; press New if an older puzzle is showing.
  2. Fill every row, column and irregular region with the digits 1 to 9 once each.
  3. Make the digits in each coloured cage add up to the cage total, with no repeats in a cage.
  4. Use notes, undo and check as you go, or print the puzzle.
  5. Finish the grid before the next puzzle, which replaces it at about 03:00 UTC.

Tips

  • Add up a whole irregular region: its cells always total 45, so cages inside it leave the sum of the cells outside them.
  • Look for cages with few possible combinations, such as two cells totalling 3 or 17, and place those first.
  • Turn on Prefill notes to start with every candidate written in, then clear them as cages and regions rule digits out.
