CrissWord: GRID
Rate itA crossword where every word runs across and each column repeats one letter.
on crissword.com

GRID is a daily puzzle from the maker of CrissWord. Every answer runs across, one per row, and every letter in a column is the same, so each row you solve fills in letters on the others. Under the clued rows sits a title row that uses all the columns. The clues are kept vague on purpose, and hints and answer checks are there if you need them, at a cost to your score.
About CrissWord: GRID
CrissWord: GRID is a daily word puzzle from Chris Ward, who makes the CrissWord games under Mento Apps Ltd. It looks like a small crossword but follows two rules of its own: every answer runs across, one word per row, and every letter in a given column is the same all the way down. So the grid is a stack of across answers that share their letters by column.
Because the columns repeat, each row you solve hands you letters in the same columns of the other rows. The clues are kept deliberately vague, so the column letters, rather than the clue alone, are often what pins an answer down. Below the clued rows is a final row clued only as a title with its word lengths, which spans every column. In No. 577 the five rows were short everyday words and the title was a novel; titles range over films, books, people and phrases. When the grid is full you confirm your final answer, get a percentage score, and can copy a result to share. A streak count and a countdown to the next grid follow.
If you get stuck, you can reveal a random letter, check your answers, or take a hint on a row, but each one lowers your score. Settings include light and dark themes, letter lists beside the clues, and choices for how typing moves through the grid.
There is one numbered grid a day, the same for everyone, counted from No. 1 on 25 March 2025; the grid on 22 October 2026 was No. 577. A new grid arrives at midnight in your own time zone, and earlier days can be opened by date. A paid CrissWord+ unlock is offered for past and future GRID puzzles and the other CrissWord games, but today's grid is free in the browser with no account and no ads. GRID is also part of the free CrissWord Games app for iPhone and Android, alongside CrissWord, Full Circle and WikiMatch.
It suits crossword solvers who want a short daily with a twist, and anyone who enjoys using letter overlaps as much as the clues.
How to play CrissWord: GRID
- Open crissword.com/grid and start the day's grid; a short tour explains the rules the first time.
- Read the clue for a row and type its answer across that row; each row holds one whole word and the cursor moves on to the next row.
- Every letter in a column is the same down the grid, so a letter you place shows up in the same column of the other rows. Fix any clashes, marked in red, before going on.
- Use the shared letters to work out the last row, a title clued only by its word lengths, which runs across every column.
- If you are stuck, reveal a letter, check your answers or take a row hint (each costs score), then submit your final answer to see your score and share it.

Tips
- Solve the row you are surest of first: its letters seed the same columns in every other row.
- The clues are vague on purpose, so lean on the crossing column letters as your main constraint.
- Every row spans the full width, so each answer is a fixed length; count the cells before guessing.
- Hold back hints and answer checks until you are truly stuck, since each one lowers your score.
Questions
How is GRID different from a normal crossword?
Every answer runs across, one per row, and every letter in a column is the same down the grid. Instead of across and down answers crossing, the rows share their letters by column.
What is the title row?
The last row is clued only as a title with its word lengths, such as (4,2,3,5), and runs across all the columns. Its letters come from the columns you fill with the clued rows. On 22 October 2026 it was a novel.
Is it the same puzzle for everyone?
Yes. There is one numbered grid per day, shared by all players, with a new one at midnight in your time zone. Earlier days can be reached by date.
Who makes it?
Chris Ward of Mento Apps Ltd, who also makes the other CrissWord games such as WikiMatch and Full Circle.
Are there hints?
Yes. You can reveal a random letter, check your answers or take a hint on a row, but each one costs some of your score.
Is it free?
Yes. The daily grid is free in the browser with no account, and the CrissWord Games app is free on iPhone and Android. A paid CrissWord+ unlock is offered for more past and future puzzles.
