Constellate board for 18 October 2026: the clue Campaign for a cause linked by rhymes with, change 3 from, add 3 to and anagram of to Elaborate pretense and Subterfuge

Constellate is a daily word puzzle that works like a crossword without a grid. Each day's set of clued words is drawn as a constellation, and the lines between words tell you how they relate, such as change one letter, rhymes with, anagram or homophone, so every answer helps you find its neighbours.

About Constellate

Constellate spreads the day's words across a dark star map. Each word has a short crossword-style clue, such as Decide with a coin or Pole on a sailboat, and boxes for its letters. Lines join words to one another, and each line carries a relation: change one letter, change two, anagram, rhyme, homophone, contains, add three letters, or shares its first or last three letters.

That makes the puzzle part crossword and part wordplay chain. An answer you are sure of opens the words around it, since knowing that one word is an anagram of another or rhymes with it narrows the next answer down. Tapping a relation explains it with an example, such as heart and heard for change one.

Each daily puzzle is dated and lists how many words it holds before you start; the 18 October 2026 puzzle had 11. Answers are checked as you type unless you turn auto-check off, and a timer runs while you solve. The Puzzles page is a calendar of every past day, each with its own leaderboard of times, with solves that used help listed apart as assisted.

Beyond the daily one, the site has community puzzles and a puzzle maker for building your own. Signing in is optional: it saves your progress and keeps a streak. Constellate is made by Alex Doliner and has no ads. On a phone the board pans and an on-screen keyboard sits below it. It suits crossword solvers who enjoy cryptic-style wordplay.

How to play Constellate

  1. Press Start the Puzzle on the day's board.
  2. Pick a word, read its clue and type the answer in its boxes.
  3. Use the lines between words: each says how two answers relate, such as anagram, rhymes with or add 3 letters. Tap one to see its rule.
  4. Work outward from the answers you know until every word in the constellation is filled.

Tips

  • Start with the clues you find easiest and use their links to unlock neighbours.
  • Tap a relation to see its rule; same first 3 and contains are easy to misread.
  • Rhyme and homophone links tell you a word's sound, which helps when its clue is vague.
