BingeWatcher

on bingewatcher.org

BingeWatcher hides everything about one box office film: its title, year, country, genres, synopsis, cast and crew. You type words and numbers. Exact matches are revealed wherever they appear, and words close in meaning fade the mask over the hidden one. Each edition (US, UK and French) has its own film every day.
About BingeWatcher
BingeWatcher is a daily film puzzle made by Kahen. Each day it picks a film that did well at a national box office and shows its info sheet with every word masked: the title and original title, the release year, the country, the genres, a synopsis of several paragraphs, and cards for the cast, the director and the writers. The film data comes from Wikipedia.
There are three editions, each with its own film. The US edition draws on American box office hits since 1948 and resets at midnight New York time. The UK edition goes back to 1968 and resets at midnight London time. The French edition is played in French, covers the French box office since 1946 and resets at midnight French time.
You play by typing a word or a number and pressing Enter. An exact match is revealed everywhere it appears on the sheet, so a common word like "the" opens dozens of gaps at once. A word that is close in meaning to a hidden one is written faintly inside its mask, and the closer it is, the clearer the mask gets. Clicking a masked word shows its length. After enough shots you unlock hints, each of which reveals a genre, a country, or the name of a cast or crew member for free. There is no limit on shots. The game is won when every word of the title is uncovered.
The left panel keeps your shots with counts of exact and close matches, and shows yesterday's film and how many players found today's. A stats screen tracks your streak, wins, average shots and trophies, and the archive lets you play earlier days. A finished game can be shared as a short text.
It suits film fans who like Redactle or Pedantle. The cast cards and the synopsis give a movie buff much more to work with than a general article does.

Tips
- Start with short common words such as the, of, and, a and his to open up the synopsis.
- Try likely years as numbers. The release year often narrows the field quickly.
- Enter verbs in the infinitive and nouns in the singular. The game can reveal the other forms from them.
- Save hints for the director or a lead actor, since one name often gives the film away.
