Name the artist behind the day's artwork, then its year and style.

Play Artle (artle.eu)

on artle.eu

Artle's daily board on 19 Oct 2026: a hazy Turner seascape partly hidden under grey blocks, three empty guess rows and the Name of artist box below

Artle shows one artwork a day from a museum collection and asks who made it, with three tries to name the artist. Two bonus rounds follow, on the year the work was made and a defining attribute of it. Your result shares as a numbered Artle score.

About Artle (artle.eu)

Artle is a daily art quiz in the browser. Each day it shows one artwork and asks a single question: who made it. You get three tries to name the artist, typing into a box that suggests names as you go, so you do not have to spell them from memory.

After the artist round come two short bonus rounds on the same work: the year it was made and a defining attribute such as its style or movement. The artwork is the same for everyone on a given day, numbered so you can compare, and the puzzle turns over at local midnight.

The images come from Wikimedia Commons and open museum collections, which the site credits at the foot of the page. It is free to play and carries ads, with a tip jar for the maker. A linked sister quiz, Kviss, offers a separate daily round.

It suits anyone who likes recognising painters and testing how much they can read from a single picture: the subject, the palette and the brushwork all point towards an artist and a period.

How to play Artle (artle.eu)

  1. Look at the day's artwork at the top of the page.
  2. Type an artist's name and pick from the suggestions, then press Guess.
  3. Use up to three tries to name the artist; each miss narrows your thinking.
  4. Play the two bonus rounds on the same work: pick the year it was made from four choices, then a defining attribute such as its style.
  5. Share your numbered result and come back for a new artwork tomorrow.

Tips

  • Read the style before the subject: brushwork, palette and framing often place a work in a period faster than the scene does.
  • If you are unsure of the exact artist, start with a name from the right movement; the suggestions may jog the correct one.
  • For the year round, anchor on the movement you settled on, since styles map roughly onto decades.

Questions

How many guesses do I get?

Three tries to name the artist. Grey blocks over the painting lift after each miss. Two bonus rounds follow, on the year (picked from four choices) and a defining attribute of the work.

Is the artwork the same for everyone?

Yes. There is one numbered artwork per day, shared by all players, and it changes at local midnight.

Where do the pictures come from?

From Wikimedia Commons and open museum collections, credited at the foot of the page.

Does it cost anything?

No. It is free to play with ads, and there is a tip jar if you want to support the maker.
