Artifact Guesser Today's Run, round 1 of 3 on 26 October 2026: photos of an etched Dutch landscape with a cottage, a world map to pick the country and a year slider below

Artifact Guesser shows you photos of real objects from museum collections and asks where they come from and when they were made. Its daily run gives everyone the same three artifacts, each scored out of 200, and ends with a dated share card. Outside the daily you can play unlimited rounds or join a multiplayer lobby.

About Artifact Guesser

Artifact Guesser is a guessing game built on museum open data. Its about page says the collection began with the Metropolitan Museum of Art's API, and the home page now counts more than 230,000 artifacts from 10 museums. Today's run drew on the Cleveland Museum of Art and Peru's Museo Larco, with objects from etchings and manuscripts to Nasca pottery.

The daily mode, called Today's Run, is a set of three artifacts that is the same for everyone on a given date. For each one you look at the photos, click the country you think it came from on a world map and set a year on a slider that runs from BC to AD. The country and the year are each worth 100 points. The answer then shows the object's title, place, date, medium and museum, with a map of the borders of the world in that year.

After the third artifact the summary gives your score out of 600 with the date and a share card. You can play without an account. Signing up saves your score to the daily leaderboard.

The rest of the site is open-ended. There is an unlimited single-player mode, multiplayer lobbies, a live chat beside the board and a searchable list of artifacts. The project calls itself an alpha build and takes feature requests on its subreddit and Discord.

It suits players who like map-and-year games such as TimeGuessr but would rather date an object than a photograph. Three rounds take a few minutes.

How to play Artifact Guesser

  1. Open artifactguesser.com/daily to start Today's Run.
  2. Look at the first artifact's photos. Its details stay hidden until you guess.
  3. Click the country on the world map where you think it was made.
  4. Move the slider to the year you think it dates from, then press Guess.
  5. Read the real origin and date, the points for each and the map of the world in that year, then press Next Artifact.
  6. After the third artifact, open the game summary to see your score out of 600 and your share card.

Tips

  • Look closely at the material in the photo. Bronze, glazed stoneware, lacquer and paper prints each point to particular regions and periods.
  • Country and year score separately, so a good guess on one still earns points when you are unsure of the other.
  • Use unlimited mode to learn the museums' collections before the daily.
  • Sign up if you want your daily score kept on the leaderboard under your name.
