Zaggle #109 for October 30, 2026 in casual mode: a 4x4 grid of red letter tiles under the clue Trial by fire or test of patience, 6 letters, with 1 of 10 words found

Zaggle is a free daily word puzzle on a 4x4 grid of letters. Each clue gives a word and its length; you trace it through touching letters, the tiles vanish, and new letters fall in. Clear every word, ten on recent days, to empty the board, timed against other players or played casually.

About Zaggle

Zaggle is a free daily word game by Lukas Stanley of Fox Point Games, played on a 4x4 grid of red letter tiles. Every day there is one numbered, dated puzzle, the same for all players, built around a set of hidden words. Puzzle #1 came out on 14 July 2026, and #109 on 30 October 2026 had ten words, as the days before it did.

One clue shows at a time, with the length of its answer, so the game sits between a crossword and a word search. You spell the answer by dragging through touching letters, diagonals included, or by tapping them one by one. As soon as the word is complete its tiles disappear on their own, the letters above drop down and new ones fall in from the top, so the grid keeps changing as you go. The puzzle is done when every word is found and the board is empty.

Competitive mode runs a timer and ranks your time against everyone else who played that mode; casual mode keeps no score. A hint shows where the next letter of the word is, at a cost of 30 seconds on the clock. A numbered archive holds every earlier day, and the game is ad-free, kept going by optional player memberships.

Fox Point Games also makes Dodeku, Quizmoji, Wordloop and Wordsmyth, each with its own daily puzzle.

It suits players who like clue-driven word searches such as Strands and want a short daily grid where finding one word reshapes the next.

How to play Zaggle

  1. Open the day's puzzle and choose Competitive for a timed, ranked game or Casual for no score.
  2. Read the clue at the top and note how many letters the answer has.
  3. Spell the answer by dragging through touching letters, diagonals included, or by tapping them one at a time; each letter is used once per word.
  4. When the word is complete its tiles vanish, the letters above fall down and new ones drop in from the top.
  5. Move on to the next clue and clear every word until the board is empty.

Tips

  • Use the given length to narrow the answer before hunting for a path.
  • Letters connect in all eight directions, so check the diagonals before deciding a word is not there.
  • Clearing a word changes the grid, so look again at the board after each one rather than relying on paths you saw earlier.
  • In competitive mode a hint costs 30 seconds, so save it for a clue you cannot place.

Questions

How many words are there each day?

The day's puzzle shows its count under the grid. It was ten words on 30 October 2026, each with its own clue and length.

How do I enter a word?

Drag through touching letters in one motion or tap them one at a time. The word is accepted as soon as it is spelled, with no button to press.

What happens to the letters after a word is found?

Its tiles disappear, the letters above fall to fill the gaps and new letters drop in from the top.

What is the difference between competitive and casual mode?

Competitive mode times you and ranks your time against other competitive players, and counts toward your stats. Casual mode records nothing.

Can I play past puzzles?

Yes. The archive lists every earlier day by number and date.

Does Zaggle have ads or need an account?

No. It is ad-free, supported by optional memberships, and your progress is kept in your browser without signing up.
