on wrodeo.com

Wrodeo is a literary word game. Each day it shows a passage from a book with only some letters revealed, and you type words you think are in it; every correct guess fills in all its places in the passage. Hints, four difficulty levels and a link to the book round it out, with no ads and no sign-up.
About Wrodeo
Wrodeo builds its daily puzzle from books. The day's passage appears as rows of word boxes with most letters missing, such as Som___m_s for sometimes, and you complete it by guessing words in any order. When you type a word that appears in the passage, it fills in everywhere it occurs; punctuation and capital letters do not matter, and wrong guesses cost nothing except your accuracy figure. The book and its author are named above the passage, which helps with the tone and the vocabulary.
Each puzzle comes with a limited number of hints: tap a word to reveal one of its missing letters, shown in orange. A difficulty setting from Easy through Normal and Hard to Impossible changes how many letters and hints you start with, and everyone on the same level gets the same letters missing. If you are stuck you can surrender and see the passage. When you finish, the game shows your words found, correct-guess ratio and longest streak, and links to the book for anyone who wants to read on.
Wrodeo was made by a husband-and-wife team in San Francisco: Kelsey, an editor who had the idea, and Dan, who coded it. They pick the passages themselves, leaving out names, rude words and invented words, and a new one goes up every day at midnight Pacific time. The archive lists every past passage by date; playing them is part of a Patreon membership, which also brings a member dashboard with stats.
The game shows no ads; it is kept up by Patreon members, donations and book affiliate links. It suits readers who like the feel of a cryptogram but would rather fill in real words than crack a cipher.

Tips
- Start with the short common words, such as the, and, of and was, to open up the rest.
- Look at word lengths and the letters shown: a five-letter word ending in _s is often a plural.
- Save hints for long words that unlock many letters at once.
Questions
What time does Wrodeo reset?
A new passage is published every day at midnight Pacific time.
Where do the passages come from?
From books the two makers have read or that players suggest. The game names the book and author above the passage and links to it at the end.
Does punctuation matter?
No. Punctuation and capital letters do not matter when you guess.
Can I change the difficulty?
Yes: Easy, Normal, Hard or Impossible, which changes the letters shown and the hints you get. Changing it mid-puzzle erases your progress.
Can I play past puzzles?
The archive lists every past passage by date; playing them comes with a Patreon membership.
