Whodle is a daily quiz for Doctor Who fans. Each day you name one episode in five guesses: on weekdays from stills, on Saturdays from audio clips and on Sundays from transcripts or trivia, with another clue after every wrong guess. Past days stay playable from a date picker.
About Whodle
Whodle is a fan-made daily game for Doctor Who, made by dixonary. Each day it picks one episode of the series, and your job is to say which one it is.
You type into a search box, which matches titles loosely and shows each episode with its series and episode code, and choose one from the list. Every wrong guess unlocks the next of five clues, and the numbered buttons under the clue let you look back at the ones you have already seen. You have five guesses in all.
The format changes through the week. Monday to Friday you get stills from the episode, run through a swirling distortion that makes a set or a face harder to place at a glance. Since 2025 the weekends have their own specials: Sonic Saturday plays five audio clips from one episode, and Subwave Sunday mixes formats such as transcript cards with the speakers' names blacked out, or trivia rounds.
Every puzzle lives at a dated address, such as /game/2026-10-16, and a date menu at the top lets you go back and play a day you missed. The game is free, runs in the browser on a phone or a desktop and needs no account. It suits viewers who know the long run of the programme well enough to place a corridor, a monster, a voice or a line of dialogue.
How to play Whodle
- Open whodle.dixonary.co.uk and close the weekend notice if it shows.
- Look at today's first clue: a still on weekdays, an audio clip on Saturdays, a transcript or another format on Sundays.
- Type part of an episode title in the search box, pick it from the list and press Submit.
- If you are wrong, the next clue is revealed; use the numbered buttons to look back at earlier ones.
- Keep guessing until you name the episode or use all five guesses.
- Pick an earlier date from the menu at the top to play a past day.

Tips
- Identify the Doctor and companion first; that alone narrows the search to one era.
- Look at picture quality and colour, which separate the classic and modern series even through the distortion.
- Sets and monsters often appear in only one or two stories, so check the background.
- On transcript days, the rhythm of the lines often gives away which Doctor is speaking.
- On audio days, turn on the audio description if you cannot make out the clip.
