Toddle gives you a clue and a four-letter word whose letters appear, in order, inside the day's answer. You add letters one at a time to reveal more of the answer, and guess when you think you know it. The aim is to solve it using as few letters as possible.

About Toddle

Toddle is a free daily word puzzle in the browser. Each day there is one secret answer, which can be a single word or a phrase, a short clue, and a four-letter starter word. The letters of the starter word all appear in the answer in the same order, but with other letters in between.

To fill the gaps you choose letters from the keyboard. If a letter is in the answer, one copy of it is revealed in the right place; there may be more copies, but each pick reveals only one. Letters that are not in the answer, or that are already fully shown, are greyed out once you try them.

You can type a full guess at any time. A wrong guess locks the guess box until you choose at least one more letter. Spaces and punctuation are not shown, so in a phrase you also have to work out where the words break. A counter keeps track of how many letters you have used.

The twist on hangman is that you start with part of the answer and the challenge is to stop early. It suits players who like a clue-based guessing game with a light scoring goal.

How to play Toddle

Read the clue and the four-letter starter word.
Pick a letter; if it is in the answer, one copy appears in its place.
Keep adding letters until you can see what the answer is.
Type your guess and press Guess.
After a wrong guess, add another letter before guessing again.

Tips

Think about how the starter word's letters could sit inside a longer word before choosing any letters.
Common vowels reveal the shape of the answer quickly, but each one adds to your count.
Remember the answer may be a phrase with no spaces shown.
