The TimeLineup start screen on MatchIQ: Put moments in order, 6 to 10 moments, 5 tries, hidden timing, a Daily button with streak and the day's top score

TimeLineup is a football history puzzle from MatchIQ. Each day you get 6 to 10 shuffled moments such as transfers, trophies, debuts, records and famous matches, and you drag them into date order with no dates shown. Each locked attempt marks cards green or red, you have five tries, and fewer tries means a higher score.

About TimeLineup

TimeLineup tests a particular kind of football knowledge: not names or numbers, but when things happened relative to each other. The day's puzzle is a set of 6 to 10 famous moments from the sport, shuffled. They can be transfers, trophies, debuts, records or well known matches, and no dates are shown while you play.

You drag the cards up or down, or use the arrows beside them, to build your best guess at the order, then submit it. Cards in the right slot turn green and show their date; cards in the wrong slot turn red. You rearrange the red ones and submit again. You have five tries, and the fewer you use, the higher your score.

You never type a year: knowing that one event came before another is enough. That makes it as much a game of reasoning as of memory, since you can often place an event by what it must have come before or after.

The daily lineup is the same for everyone, plays without an account and keeps a streak. Signed-in players also get Random, Hard and Match modes, a place on the daily and weekly leaderboards and a friends board. MatchIQ runs other daily football games on the same site, among them PriceTag, GroundIQ, TikiTaka and NameTen, and the site shows no ads.

How to play TimeLineup

  1. Open TimeLineup and press Daily to get the day's shuffled football moments.
  2. Drag each card up or down, or use its arrows, until the order looks right: oldest at the top, newest at the bottom.
  3. Submit your lineup: green cards are in the right slot and show their date, red cards belong elsewhere.
  4. Rearrange the red cards and submit again, solving it within five tries and in as few as you can.

Tips

  • Place the moment you are surest is oldest and the one you are surest is newest first, then fill the middle.
  • Leave green cards where they are and spend each new attempt only on the red ones.
  • Think in eras before years: sort the moments into rough decades, then order within each.
  • Use what you know about careers: a player's debut has to come before his record or his big transfer.

Questions

Do I need to know exact dates?

No. You only need the relative order, and the game never asks you to type a year.

How many tries do I get?

Five per puzzle. Solving it in fewer tries earns a higher score.

Do I need an account?

Not for the daily. An account adds the Random, Hard and Match modes, the leaderboards and the club archive.

When does a new lineup come out?

The site picks the daily by your device's date, so a new one starts at midnight your local time.
