A SWordle board in play: guesses JEDIS, REBEL and LEKKU with a green E in second place, a yellow E, grey letters and the number and dash keyboard

SWordle is a Star Wars take on Wordle. Each day there is one five-character word from the Star Wars universe, and you have six tries to find it, with coloured tiles showing which letters are right and in place. The keyboard has numbers and a dash for droid names and codes, and a hint opens after your third try.

About SWordle

SWordle is a daily word game for Star Wars fans, made by AurebeshFiles, who also runs the starwars.guide site. Its games are numbered from 29 January 2022. It follows the Wordle formula closely, but the answer is always a word from the Star Wars universe: a character, a planet, a ship, a species, a droid or a piece of slang from the films and series.

You type five-character guesses and get the usual feedback. A green tile means the letter is in the right place, yellow means it is in the word but somewhere else, and grey means it is not in the word at all. You have six tries. By default the game carries your green letters down into the next row, so you only type the letters around them; this can be switched off in the settings.

The twist is the vocabulary. The game accepts nearly 30,000 Star Wars words, and the keyboard has the digits and a dash so that droid names and codes such as R2-D2 can be entered. Plurals count too. If you are stuck after your third try, a hint button lights up in the top left corner, and the stats screen counts how many hints you have used.

The settings include a colour-blind mode, a plain font and an option to show the letters in Aurebesh, the Star Wars alphabet. Your statistics, streak and guess distribution are kept in the browser and can be exported and imported to move them to another device. When you finish, the game links the winning word to a page on starwars.guide that explains what it is, so a missed answer can still teach you something about the saga.

It suits Star Wars fans who already play Wordle and want a daily test of how deep their knowledge of the films, shows and books goes. The game is free and needs no account; it shows Google ads.

How to play SWordle

  1. Open wordle.starwars.guide and type a five-character Star Wars word, using the number and dash keys if you need them.
  2. Press enter and read the tiles: green is the right letter in the right spot, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
  3. Type your next guess; letters you already have in green are filled in for you, so type only the others.
  4. After your third try you can press the hint button in the top left for help.
  5. Find the word within six tries, then follow the link to read about it on starwars.guide and share your result.

Tips

  • Remember that plurals count, so words like JEDIS may be valid guesses.
  • Keep droid and vehicle codes in mind: a number or dash can appear in the answer.
  • With auto-filled greens on, typing a whole word shifts your letters past the green ones; type only the empty spots, or turn the option off in settings.
  • Browse the published word list if you want to learn the vocabulary the game draws on.
