Sudoku Mega is the Puzzle Society's giant sudoku: a 16x16 grid in which every row, column and 4x4 box holds each of sixteen symbols once, the digits 1 to 9 and the letters A to G. A new one comes each day on GoComics, with a subscription, for solvers who want a long sitting rather than a quick grid.
About Sudoku Mega (Puzzle Society)
Sudoku Mega is one of five sudoku games in the Puzzle Society set on GoComics from Andrews McMeel Universal, beside the classic daily sudoku, Sudoku Mini, Sudoku X and Sudoku X Mini. The Puzzle Society pitches it as a test of your puzzling moxie: a giant 16x16 sudoku that uses both numbers and letters.
The rules are the classic ones on a bigger board. The grid is divided into sixteen boxes of four by four, and each row, each column and each box must hold every one of sixteen symbols exactly once. Because there are more than nine, the symbols are the digits 1 to 9 and the letters A to G, as the game's art shows.
With 256 squares it takes far longer than a 9x9 grid, and the usual sudoku techniques (singles, pairs, pointing lines) need more patience across so many candidates. Each day brings one grid, the same for every player.
Sudoku Mega is included with a GoComics subscription. It suits experienced sudoku players who want a longer daily solve.
How to play Sudoku Mega (Puzzle Society)
- Open Sudoku Mega on the GoComics puzzles page and sign in with a GoComics subscription.
- Look at the 16x16 grid, divided into sixteen 4x4 boxes, with some symbols given.
- Fill each empty square with a digit from 1 to 9 or a letter from A to G.
- Make sure no symbol repeats in any row, column or 4x4 box, until the grid is full.
Tips
- Scan for the symbols that already appear most often: they have the fewest places left.
- Work box by box: a 4x4 box with twelve symbols given is nearly solved.
- Use pencil marks; with sixteen candidates per square, memory alone is not enough.
