Today's Sportsdle NHL guess board after three guesses (Pastrnak, Matthews, McDavid), with green, gold and red tiles for team, division, number, position, country, age, pick and points

Sportsdle gathers daily athlete guessing games for eight sports on one site. In each one you name the day's mystery player, driver or fighter in ten attempts, and every guess tells you how close you are on team, division, number, position, country, age and more. New puzzles go live at midnight Eastern Time.

About Sportsdle

Sportsdle is a hub of daily sports guessing games in the style of Wordle, made by Julien Melançon and also out as an app for iPhone and Android. Each sport has its own Daily Classic: the NHL, the NFL, college football, the NBA, Major League Baseball, Premier League soccer, the UFC and Formula 1. Every day each one picks a mystery athlete, and every player gets the same one.

A round works the same way across sports. You type a name, pick it from the list, and the game lays your guess out as a row of tiles: team, division, jersey number, position, country, age, draft pick and career points in the NHL game, with other columns in other sports. Green is a match, gold is close (within five), red is wrong, and arrows point up or down on the numbers. You have ten attempts. After five guesses a bonus clue opens (the draft in hockey and basketball, a team hint in football and F1, the club badge in soccer), and after eight the athlete's photo. Role players come up as often as stars, so it rewards people who know whole rosters.

Around the Classic games there are more dailies: grids for the NHL, NFL, NBA and Formula 1 where you name players who fit each row and column, Guess the Track for F1, Guess the College for college football, and CaddieDLE, a daily golf hole where you pick club, swing, flight and line in four attempts. There are also season builders such as 84-0, 17-0 and 82-0, a pack-opening card collection, a leaderboard, and challenge links where you pick the answer for your friends.

The daily games are free and need no account. Yesterday's puzzle is free in the archive; Sportsdle Pro removes ads and opens unlimited practice and older days. It suits fans who follow more than one league and like to test themselves across all of them every morning.

How to play Sportsdle

  1. Pick a sport on the home page and open its Daily Classic.
  2. Type an athlete's name in the Find a player box and choose them from the list to make a guess.
  3. Read the row of tiles: green is a match, gold is within five, red is wrong, and arrows point toward the answer on numbers.
  4. Use each result to narrow the field; a bonus clue opens after five guesses and the photo after eight.
  5. Find the athlete within ten attempts, then try another sport or come back after midnight Eastern Time.

Tips

  • Start with a mid-career player on an average team: the team, division and age clues then split the field well.
  • Watch the division tile before the team itself; a green division rules out most of the league at once.
  • Gold means within five, so a gold age or number with an arrow narrows the answer to a handful of values.
  • Hold a few guesses back for after the bonus clue opens at five.
