on brainsnack.games

Secret Sound plays one short mystery clip a day and asks what is making that sound. You can replay it as often as you like, reveal up to three hints and make up to five guesses of at least two words. Your score starts at 8 and drops by one for every hint and every guess.
About Secret Sound (BrainSnack)
Secret Sound is one of the small daily puzzles on BrainSnack, beside games like Math Sprint, MindMatch and Faceit. Its question is simple: what's making that sound?
You press the play button to hear the day's clip, and replays are unlimited. Under the player a row of dashes shows the length of the answer, which is a short phrase rather than a single word: the game only accepts guesses of at least two words, and it takes common wordings of the same answer. If you cannot place the sound, you can reveal hints one at a time, up to three, or give up and see the answer.
The score starts at 8 out of 8 and every hint and every guess costs a point, with five guesses at most, so the best result comes from naming the sound on the first listen. Each day has a number, your streak is kept in the browser, and a share button copies your score and a small grid of how the day went.
The clips are everyday sounds: a kettle coming to the boil, a broom on a floor, things from the kitchen, the street and the house. The game has a fixed bank of sounds and moves through it one a day; since early October 2026 it has gone back to the start of that bank, so recent days repeat clips from July.
It suits players who like a listening puzzle that is not about music, and anyone who has wondered what a common household or outdoor noise really sounds like out of context. It plays the same on a phone and a desktop, with no account and no ads.

Tips
- Listen for the setting first: indoor, outdoor, machine or animal.
- Count the dashes to judge how long the answer is.
- Take a hint only after a couple of careful listens, since each one lowers your score.
Questions
How many times can I play the clip?
As often as you like; replays are unlimited and do not cost points.
How many hints and guesses are there?
Up to three hints and five guesses. The score starts at 8 and each hint or guess takes one point off.
Why is my one-word guess rejected?
The game asks for guesses of at least two words, since its answers are short phrases such as kettle boiling.
When does a new sound come out?
At midnight by your device's date. The game works through a fixed bank of sounds, and in October 2026 it began repeating clips from its first days.
