Rerun puzzle #100 on 19 Oct 2026: the Slang category with two guesses, CRANE and SLOTH, marked in purple, orange and grey tiles above the keyboard

Rerun is a daily word game where every answer comes from one period of pop culture. Its first season is Y2K: each day you get the category, such as fashion, and six tries to find a word from the turn of the millennium, with Wordle-style letter colours.

About Rerun

Rerun calls itself the daily culture puzzle, and each season is set in one era. Season one is Y2K, the years around 2000, so the day's word might be a gadget, a fashion item, a TV show or a bit of slang from that time. The game tells you the category before you start, which gives you a second clue alongside the letters.

You have six guesses. As in Wordle, each letter comes back marked as right letter in the right spot, right letter in the wrong spot, or not in the word. Most answers are five letters long, but on twist days the word is four or six letters, and the game warns you when the day breaks the five-letter routine.

The first puzzle came out on 12 July 2026. Puzzles are numbered and change at midnight Pacific Time. Your streak and guess distribution are kept on your device, without an account. After three misses a hint unlocks, and once you solve the word a short note explains where it came from and why it mattered. Past answers, with their notes, are listed on the site, though old puzzles cannot be replayed. The look borrows from late-1990s screens and tapes, in keeping with the theme.

It suits anyone who grew up around 2000 or likes nostalgia trivia, and it is a gentler start than a plain word game because the category narrows the field.

How to play Rerun

  1. Open Rerun and read today's category.
  2. Type a guess of the right length and submit it.
  3. Read the colours: right letter in the right spot, right letter in the wrong spot, or not in the word.
  4. Use the category and the colours to narrow down the word.
  5. Find it within six tries, then check your streak and share your result.

Tips

  • Think of words from around the year 2000 in the day's category before you type your first guess.
  • Check the word length each day: twist days use four or six letters.
  • Use an early guess to test common letters if the category alone does not suggest an answer.
  • If you are stuck after three guesses, open the hint before using your last tries.
