Questle on a desktop at guess 4 of 10: Uncharted 4 and The Witcher 3 compared with the secret game on year, rating, perspective, publisher, genre, mode and platform

Questle is a daily video game guessing game. Search for any game and guess, and each guess shows how it compares with the secret game on release year, developer, rating, genre, perspective, game mode and platform. You have ten tries, and a screenshot hint unlocks along the way.

About Questle

Questle works like the attribute -dles for players and characters, but with whole video games. You search a large database of games, powered by IGDB, and pick one. The answer row then colours each field: green for an exact match, yellow for close and grey for wrong.

Each field has its own rule. Year is yellow within five years, with an arrow saying whether the answer is older or newer, and rating works the same way within five points. Genre, perspective and game mode turn green when all match and yellow when one does. Platform is yellow for the same console family, such as PS2 against PS4, and the maker (the help calls it developer, the result card shows the publisher) is either an exact match or not.

If you are stuck, a blurred screenshot from the game unlocks after five guesses and becomes clear after eight. You have ten guesses in all, a streak to keep, and a share button at the end. The menu lists the last 30 days, so a missed day can still be played. The day's game is chosen from a list of 1,000 by the date, so a date brings the same game each year, and November and December repeat the games of January and February.

It was made by elovmeister and inspired by Spotle, and suits players with a wide memory of games across eras and platforms.

How to play Questle

  1. Search for any video game and submit it as your guess.
  2. Read the colours: green exact, yellow close, grey wrong, with arrows on year and rating.
  3. Narrow down by platform family, genre and developer with each new guess.
  4. After five guesses look at the blurred screenshot hint; after eight it is clear.
  5. Find the secret game within ten guesses and share your streak.

Tips

  • Open with a well-known multi-platform game from the middle of the range to read the year and rating arrows.
  • Platform family yellow is a strong clue to the console generation.
  • Use genre and perspective together to split action games from strategy and role-playing games.
