on phoodle.net

Phoodle is a daily word puzzle about food in the manner of Wordle. Each day there is one five-letter answer, which can be an ingredient, a dish, a cooking technique, a kitchen tool or a word from wine and drink, and you have six tries to find it. After the round a short food fact about the word and a quiz card follow.
About Phoodle
Phoodle takes the Wordle format and gives it a subject: every answer has something to do with food. The word might be an ingredient, a dish, a cooking method, a tool from the kitchen drawer or a term from the wine glass, so solving it calls on both spelling instincts and what you know about eating and cooking.
The rules are the familiar ones. You type five-letter words and the tiles change colour after each guess: green when a letter is in the word and in the right spot, yellow when it is in the word but somewhere else, and grey when it is not in the word at all. You have six tries, and a hard mode can be switched on before the first guess.
When the round is over, Phoodle shows the answer with a short Phoodle Fact about it, a quiz card with a multiple-choice question on the same subject, a countdown to the next word and a button to share your result grid. The game keeps your streak and guess distribution in the browser, and a free Phoodle account keeps your statistics across devices; you can play without one. On the first Monday of each month the site also runs a Mini Monday Crossword.
Puzzle numbers count from 8 May 2022, and a new word comes out at midnight on your own device's clock. Phoodle is free on the web, where the page carries ads, and there is an iPhone and iPad app from Julie Loria. It suits Wordle players who like cooking and anyone who enjoys picking up a food fact with their morning puzzle.

Tips
- Remember that answers can be cooking techniques, kitchen tools or drink terms, not only ingredients.
- Open with a word that uses common letters, such as one with several vowels and an R, S or T.
- When you have a pattern, list foods, dishes and cooking verbs that fit it before guessing.
- Turn on hard mode before your first guess if you want every hint you find to be used in later guesses.
