on panigma.fr

Panigma is a free daily quiz built on Wikipedia. Each day at 00:00 UTC it sets eight articles to identify, first from the categories they sit in, then from their picture and the initials of the title, with points dropping every second. It runs in six languages on the web and on Android.
About Panigma
Panigma is a guessing game made from Wikipedia. Every day at 00:00 UTC a new round of eight articles goes up, and every player gets the same eight. The home screen counts down to the next round and numbers each one, so you can tell which day you played.
Each puzzle comes in two steps. For the first 60 seconds you see only a list of the article's Wikipedia categories, gathered across languages: a painter might show up as Renaissance people, Italian inventors and People from Vinci. If that is not enough, the second step adds the article's picture from Wikimedia Commons and the initials of its title, with 40 more seconds. The counter on a puzzle starts at 100 and loses a point every second, and every right answer adds 25 points on top, so a find in the first second is worth 125 and an answer from the categories alone is worth the most. After each puzzle the game shows the article's summary, its picture credit and the share of players who found it, and a rare quick find earns a badge such as Master stroke.
The game can be played in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese. When an article has no page in your language it is shown in another one and the game tells you, and a right answer in any of the six languages counts.
You can play without an account. Making one saves your scores, attaches the rounds you already played on that device, and puts you on the daily and monthly leaderboards. Past rounds can be replayed from the home screen, unranked, with your score set beside that day's results. The game is free on the web and has an Android app on Google Play.
It sits next to Catfishing, which also asks you to name an article from its categories, but Panigma adds the timer, the picture step and a full eight-puzzle round. It suits players who like broad general knowledge quizzes and reading around Wikipedia.
How to play Panigma
- Open panigma.fr or the Android app and press Start round.
- Read the Wikipedia categories shown for the first article and type the title you think it is.
- If you cannot place it within 60 seconds, the article's picture and the initials of its title appear, and you have 40 more seconds.
- Answer as fast as you can: the counter starts at 100 and loses one point every second, and a right answer adds 25 points on top.
- Skip a puzzle you cannot solve with the button beside the answer box and go on to the next.
- Finish all eight puzzles to get the day's score, then compare it on the leaderboard.

Tips
- Look for the most specific category first, such as a town or a single century, before the broad ones.
- Answers in any of the six languages count, so a title you know better in another language works.
- Skipping early costs less than waiting out the full clock on a puzzle you have no lead on.
- Play past rounds from the home screen to practise reading categories without risking your ranking.
Questions
What time does Panigma reset?
A new round of eight articles starts every day at 00:00 UTC. The home screen shows how long is left until the next one.
Do I need an account to play Panigma?
No. You can play the daily round without one. An account saves your scores and puts you on the leaderboard, and rounds you already played on the device are added to it.
Can I play old Panigma rounds?
Yes, from Past rounds on the home screen. Replays are unranked: your score is compared with that day's leaderboard but not added to it.
Is Panigma free?
Yes. The web game and the Android app are free to play.
How is a Panigma puzzle scored?
A counter starts at 100 and loses a point every second. A right answer scores what the counter shows plus 25 extra points, so 125 in the first second, 95 after 30 seconds and 65 when the picture appears. A puzzle not found by the end of the second step scores nothing.
