Today's Orbits mini on 18 October 2026: six empty slots in a loop above the words ear, under, put, dog, down and shot, with two lives

Orbits is a daily word puzzle played in a circle. Each round gives you a bank of words that, in the right order, form a closed loop where every word joins the next as a phrase or compound word, like space and out or work and plan. A day brings three rounds, a mini, a main and a longer max.

About Orbits

Orbits is a daily word game created by Andrew Degi. Each puzzle is dated and numbered, and it passed No. 746 in October 2026. The site also makes a Canadian daily, Canuckle.

A day's Orbits has three rounds: a mini of 6 words, a second round of 8 and a longer max of 10. The words in each round fit together in a ring: every word pairs with the one after it, either as a common phrase (put down, down under) or as a compound word (ear and shot making earshot, under and dog making underdog). Because it is a loop there is no fixed start, so you can begin with whichever pair you are most sure of and build out from there. You tap the words into the slots in order, and a wrong loop costs one of your lives. Between rounds the game shows how long you took.

A shuffle button rearranges the word bank, and a drag and drop mode in the settings lets you lay out the whole loop before submitting it. The daily plays without an account; a free account tracks streaks and average times. Supporters who donate get a weekly bonus puzzle and can remove the ads.

It suits players who like thinking about how words go together, in a format that takes a few minutes.

How to play Orbits

  1. Open playorbits.com; the day's first round, the mini, is on the board.
  2. Look through the word bank for two words you are sure form a phrase or compound word.
  3. Tap the words in order so each one joins the next around the loop.
  4. Close the loop so the last word also pairs with the first; a wrong loop costs a life.
  5. Press Next Puzzle and play the second round and the max, with 8 and 10 words.

Tips

  • Start with the strongest pair; the loop has no fixed starting point.
  • Some words work on both sides (out can follow space and start outwork), so test each word in both positions.
  • Turn on drag and drop in the settings to try out the whole loop before submitting.
