Mini nerdle #1735 on desktop with two guesses, 9+5=14 and 12/3=4, in green, purple and dark tiles above the number and operator keypad

Mini nerdle is the six-character version of nerdle, the daily maths puzzle. You guess a hidden calculation in six tries, every guess must be a valid equation, and coloured tiles show which characters are right and where.

About Mini Nerdle

Mini nerdle is part of the nerdleverse, the family of number games that started with nerdle. It works exactly like classic nerdle but uses six characters instead of eight, so the sums are simpler, for example 12+3=15 or 9*4=36.

There is one numbered puzzle a day for everyone, and a new one appears at midnight GMT. Each guess must be a correct equation. After you enter it, green means the right character in the right place, purple means the character is in the solution but somewhere else, and a dark tile means it is not in the solution at all. You have six tries.

The nerdle team suggests it as a starting point for anyone who finds classic nerdle daunting, and says it is popular in classrooms because the shorter puzzles fit into lesson time. Six characters still take careful logic, especially once multiplication and division come in. A free nerdle account is optional: the daily plays without one, and the menu has a Replay games page for past puzzles and a calculator.

It suits newcomers to equation puzzles, children practising arithmetic and nerdle regulars who want a quick second game.

How to play Mini Nerdle

  1. Open mini nerdle in a browser; close or disable the first-guess hint if it shows.
  2. Type a true six-character equation with the on-screen keys or your keyboard, such as 9+5=14, and press Enter.
  3. Read the tiles: green is the right character in the right place, purple is in the solution elsewhere, dark is not used. The keypad colours the same way.
  4. Use what you learn in the next equation and find the hidden one within six tries, then share your result.

Tips

  • Start with a guess that uses several different digits and an operator you have not tried.
  • Every guess has to be a true equation, so use each one to test both digits and an operator.
  • Remember that the result must be a whole number, which limits divisions a lot.
  • The equals sign can sit in the fourth or fifth place, so test both positions early.
