A target, a row of number tiles and four operations: get as close as you can.

Play Mathness

on mathnessapp.com

The Mathness Daily of 20 October 2026 on desktop: target 510, eight number tiles (15, 7, 14, 13, 3, 1, 5, 20), bracket and operator keys, Delete and Submit

Mathness is a quick arithmetic puzzle in the spirit of the Countdown numbers round. You get a target and a set of numbers, and you build an expression with plus, minus, times, divide and brackets to hit the target or get close. The Daily is the same puzzle for everyone, one attempt only, with leaderboards and a streak.

About Mathness

Each Mathness round shows a target and a set of number tiles. You tap numbers, operators and brackets to build an expression, using each number at most once, with normal precedence. The 20 October 2026 Daily, a medium one, set 510 with eight tiles: 15, 7, 14, 13, 3, 1, 5 and 20, and 15 x (20 + 14) lands on it exactly. The site's example uses five tiles: 7 x 9 makes 63, and 7 + 8 x 3 + 9 gets there with more of them.

Scoring rewards more than the right answer. The Google Play listing names seven parts: accuracy (an exact match pays most), the size of the target, speed, how many numbers you used, elegance, the puzzle's difficulty and a bonus for using all four operators, for up to 2,530 points. A clock runs from the first second. The Daily is one shared puzzle for every player with a single attempt; once you submit you are locked out until midnight UTC. It feeds daily, weekly and all-time leaderboards and a streak.

Beyond the Daily, Solo deals unlimited fresh puzzles, the app adds an Adventure mode, and Challenge or 1v1 sends a link to a friend so you both play the same numbers, side by side. Levels and badges grow with your score.

It runs in the browser, where you can skip the account form and play as a guest under a name and avatar it picks for you, and as apps for iPhone and Android, made by EOI Digital Limited. It is free and its store listing says it shows no ads.

It suits fans of the Countdown numbers game and of daily arithmetic puzzles such as Mathdle and Abako.

Tips

  • Look for a product near the target, then adjust it with the rest.
  • Brackets let one multiplication cover a sum: 15 x (20 + 14) is 510.
  • Using more numbers scores better, but so does a short, elegant answer: an exact hit with few numbers beats a long near miss.
  • Do not chase an exact match too long: speed counts too.
  • Practise in Solo mode before your one daily attempt.
