MailWord Large is the Daily Mail's big daily crossword, built the American way: a 15 by 15 grid packed with crossing answers, with short, plain British clues. A new dated grid comes each day, free in the browser.
About MailWord Large (Daily Mail)
MailWord Large is one of the crosswords on the Daily Mail games page, where its card calls it a US favourite with a British twist. The grid follows the American pattern: 15 squares by 15, few black squares, and almost every letter part of both an across and a down answer. The clues are short definitions, such as Snub (4) or Horticultural tool (3), with a few general-knowledge ones like a Nelly Furtado single.
Each puzzle opens on a start screen with the date. Inside, the grid sits on the left and the across and down clue lists on the right, with the current clue shown above them and an on-screen keyboard below. Tapping the highlighted square switches between across and down. The Options menu can highlight errors, show the solution or reset the grid, and the Hint button fills in an extra letter when you are stuck. A clock times the solve.
The UK edition gets a new puzzle at midnight UK time. Readers in the US are sent to a separate MailWord Large US, billed as America's favourite word puzzle, which follows New York time. MailWord Small is the same idea on a smaller grid. It is free to play, with ads on the main site.

Tips
- Start with the three- and four-letter answers: the clues are short and the crossings help the long ones.
- General-knowledge clues, such as song titles, are quick wins if you know them.
- Turn on error highlighting only once you are stuck, so you still get the satisfaction of a clean solve.
- If you find this one long, MailWord Small is the same style in a fraction of the time.
