LA Times Wordflower title card: the Los Angeles Times Games wordmark above a yellow flower icon and the word Wordflower on a pink background

Wordflower is the Los Angeles Times' daily word-building puzzle. You get seven letters arranged as a flower and make words of four or more letters that always include the centre letter, working toward the day's full list of answers.

About LA Times Wordflower

Wordflower is the LA Times take on the seven-letter word hunt that Spelling Bee made famous. The day's puzzle shows one letter in the middle of a flower and six around it. Every word you enter must be at least four letters long and must use the centre letter; the outer letters can be used as often as you like. The puzzle tells you how many words there are to find, and recent days have had between 34 and 46.

A new flower goes up at midnight Eastern time and is the same for everyone. It runs on the Amuse Labs player inside latimes.com, and a date picker keeps the last two weeks of flowers, so you can go back to one you left half done. An LA Times account adds streaks and achievements.

Unlike the New York Times Spelling Bee it is free to play in full, which makes it a good daily for anyone who likes the format but does not subscribe. It sits on the same games page as the LA Times Mini, Midi and Daily crosswords and the daily Word Search.

How to play LA Times Wordflower

  1. Open Wordflower on latimes.com/games and look at the seven letters in the flower.
  2. Type or tap a word of four or more letters that includes the centre letter.
  3. Reuse any letter as often as you like; submit the word to add it to your list.
  4. Keep going toward the total number of words shown for the day.
  5. Choose an earlier date from the picker to finish a flower you missed.

Tips

  • Look for common endings like -ING, -ED or -ER among the petals and build several words from one stem.
  • Try to find the word that uses all seven letters early; it often unlocks related words.
  • Shuffle the outer letters when you get stuck: a new arrangement shows new combinations.
