Today's Hollywoodle board on a desktop: Daily and Unlimited tabs, a heavily blurred red and blue film poster, and the clue 2026, Science Fiction, Action, Adventure

Hollywoodle is a daily movie guessing game: you name a film from a blurred poster, and each wrong guess sharpens it and adds a clue such as the director, the stars or the tagline. You get six guesses, and an unlimited mode gives you more rounds after the daily.

About Hollywoodle

Hollywoodle shows you a film poster so blurred that you can only make out colours and shapes, along with the film's release year and genres. Type a title in the search box and pick the film from the list to guess. Each wrong guess fills one of six bars, takes some blur off the poster and opens the next clue card: the director, then the first three names in the cast, then the tagline and finally the start of the plot summary.

The daily film is picked from the movies that are popular on The Movie Database at the time, so the answers lean toward recent and well known releases, and because that list changes slowly a film can turn up again after a few weeks. The daily changes at midnight on your own device's clock, and a countdown shows when the next one arrives. When you finish you can share or copy your result, and the Unlimited tab picks a random popular film whenever you want another round.

The game runs in the browser on a phone or a computer with no account and no ads; below the board it links to a set of other daily guessing games from the same network. A round takes a minute or two and suits people who follow current films. Players who prefer stills, clips or quotes as clues will find those in other daily movie games.

How to play Hollywoodle

  1. Open Hollywoodle on the Daily tab and look at the blurred poster and the release year and genres.
  2. Type a film title in the search box and pick it from the list to make a guess.
  3. After each wrong guess the poster gets sharper and a new clue appears: director, stars, tagline, then plot.
  4. Name the film within six guesses, then share your result or switch to the Unlimited tab for more rounds.
  5. Come back after midnight on your own clock for a new film.

Tips

  • Read the year and genres before guessing: a current year with action and science fiction narrows it to a handful of releases.
  • The answers come from films that are popular right now, so think of what is in cinemas or newly streaming first.
  • The director clue after your first miss is often enough; a spare early guess on a likely title costs little.
