Today's HOLLY puzzle in play: a two-word film title of 12 letters with E and A found in teal, a running timer, the locked hint button and a keyboard of digits and letters

HOLLY hides a Hollywood film title behind blank boxes each day. You pick letters one at a time; right letters fill every place they appear, and each wrong one costs one of your five lives, shown as the letters H, O, L, L, Y. A timer runs from your first move, and a hint unlocks after three misses.

About HOLLY

HOLLY is a hangman-style film game. Each day's puzzle is the title of one Hollywood movie shown as empty letter boxes, with spaces, hyphens and punctuation already in place. You tap letters, or digits for titles with numbers, on the on-screen keyboard: if a character is in the title, every box with it turns teal; if not, you lose a life and the key is greyed out. A counter above the boxes says how many letters you have found, and a timer runs from the moment you begin.

You start with five lives, drawn as the five letters of the game's name across the top. After three wrong letters a hint button unlocks, giving a one-line clue about the film, but using it costs a life. Reveal every letter before your lives run out and you win; run out, and the title is shown. Either way you can share your result and see the day's leaderboard and stats.

The films are drawn from a list of more than 1,000 titles across Hollywood's history, from classics such as Pretty Woman and Braveheart to recent releases. Everyone gets the same numbered puzzle, with a new one at midnight Indian Standard Time. Streaks and win rate are kept in your browser without an account, or you can sign in with PuzzParty to keep them. Past puzzles can be replayed from the archive in a practice mode with no effect on your streak, and an answers page lists every earlier film by date.

HOLLY comes from mini tech co., which also makes BOLLY for Bollywood films and the word game WERD. It suits film fans who like a short daily puzzle that rewards knowing titles more than plots.

How to play HOLLY

  1. Open HOLLY and press Play Today's Puzzle to see the blank film title.
  2. Tap a letter or digit on the keyboard; the timer starts with your first move.
  3. If it is in the title, it fills every matching box; if not, you lose one of your five lives.
  4. After three misses, use the hint if you need it, knowing it costs a life.
  5. Reveal the whole title before your lives run out, then share your result or open the leaderboard.

Tips

  • Start with common vowels; almost every title has an A, E or O.
  • Look at the word lengths and punctuation: a short word in the middle is often THE, OF or AND.
  • Save the hint until you are down to your last lives rather than taking it the moment it unlocks.
