Flexboxle's puzzle for 18 October 2026, Frame: the Tailwind code panel, the Start layout of eight numbered blocks, the Goal layout framing an empty middle, and six empty attempt rows

Flexboxle is a daily puzzle for practising CSS flexbox. You see a start layout of numbered blocks and a goal layout, and you edit the code with flexbox properties, in plain CSS or Tailwind classes, until your result matches the goal within six attempts.

About Flexboxle

Flexboxle turns a front-end skill into a daily game. Each puzzle has a name (Frame, Arrow Down, Cathedral and so on), a Start panel with numbered coloured blocks and a Goal panel showing where those blocks need to end up. The site asks its server for the puzzle of your date, so everyone playing on that date gets the same layout.

You edit the markup in a code panel, switching between Tailwind classes and plain CSS, and can use Quick Add to insert common classes such as flex-col, gap-1 or justify-center. When you submit, the Result panel shows what your code produces and a row of eight squares marks each block: green for Perfect, in its exact place, and other colours for blocks that are close or wrong. You have six attempts, and a short note tells you how many are left.

There are stats with a streak and a guess distribution, a result you can copy or share on X, a dark mode and a help page for newcomers to flexbox. The first puzzles were published between late January and early April 2026; since then the same pool comes round again on later dates.

It suits web developers and students who want a few minutes of hands-on flexbox practice a day, and puzzle players who enjoy seeing code turn into layout.

How to play Flexboxle

  1. Compare the Start and Goal panels to see where each numbered block must go.
  2. Edit the classes in the code panel, as Tailwind or plain CSS, or add common ones with Quick Add.
  3. Press Submit; the Result panel shows your layout and each block's square turns green when it sits exactly where the goal has it.
  4. Adjust the code and match the goal within six attempts, then share your result.

Tips

  • Decide the direction first: row or column, and whether items wrap.
  • Use justify-content for the main axis and align-items or align-self for the cross axis.
  • Nested containers can take their own classes; check each box in the markup.
  • Gaps between blocks usually come from the gap property, not margins.

Questions

Is the puzzle the same for everyone?

Yes. The puzzle is fetched from the server for the date, so all players on that date get the same one.

Do I need to know CSS?

Basic flexbox knowledge helps; the instructions and Quick Add buttons help beginners.

How many attempts do I get?

Six.

Can I use Tailwind?

Yes, you can switch between Tailwind classes and plain CSS.

Are there new puzzles every day?

There is a different puzzle each day. The puzzles first appeared between January and April 2026, and the site now reruns that pool on later dates.
