The day's Digit Shift: a scrambled 4 by 4 board of numbered tiles with one gap, tiles 1, 4, 5 and 6 already in place, under a running timer

Digit Shift is Ponder Club's take on the classic 15 puzzle. A 4x4 board of numbered tiles with one gap is scrambled, and you click tiles next to the empty space to slide them until the numbers run in order. It takes about two minutes, with a new board every day at midnight Pacific Time.

About Digit Shift (Ponder Club)

Digit Shift is one of the free daily games on Ponder Club, a site built by Calli and Eden at Flying Comet Games. The board is a 4x4 grid with fifteen numbered tiles and one empty space. Only a tile next to the gap can move: click it and it slides into the space. The aim is to put the digits in order, with as few moves as possible.

A timer runs at the top, with your best time beside it and a pause button. A short guide explains the controls the first time you play. Everyone gets the same scrambled board each day, and Ponder Club keeps a leaderboard, comments and an archive of past boards.

The game is free with no account; ads can be removed with a one-time purchase that covers the whole site. It suits anyone who played sliding tile puzzles as a child and wants a short, tidy logic break.

How to play Digit Shift (Ponder Club)

  1. Open today's board: fifteen numbered tiles and one empty space.
  2. Click a tile next to the empty space to slide it in.
  3. Work the numbers into order, row by row.
  4. Finish in as few moves and as short a time as you can.
  5. Check the leaderboard, or play past boards from the archive.

Tips

  • Solve the top row first, then the second; leave the last two rows for the end.
  • Place the last two tiles of a row together: line them up beside their spots, then rotate them in.
  • Do not undo finished rows; work around them using the space below.
  • Plan a few moves ahead to keep the move count down.
