Daily POP Crossword Puzzles is a free crossword app from PuzzleNation with two new crosswords every day, themed on TV, film, music, celebrities and sport. The puzzles are made with Dell Magazines and Penny Press, and an archive of thousands of older crosswords stays in the app.

About Daily POP Crossword Puzzles

Daily POP Crosswords puts out two crosswords a day with clues drawn from pop culture: television, movies, celebrity news, music, sport and books, mixed with ordinary vocabulary. Each puzzle carries its date; a store screenshot shows a POP PLUS crossword for 4 December 2024 with the answer WIFI for the clue Free service offered at many coffee shops.

The puzzles are built with the constructors behind Dell Magazines and Penny Press, the American puzzle magazine publishers, and the app comes from PuzzleNation, which also makes Penny Dell Daily Crossword. The grids are American-style crosswords with black squares, sized for a single sitting rather than a Sunday-length marathon.

When a clue stumps you, the app can show errors or reveal a letter or a whole word, and a Smart Step setting moves the cursor through the grid for you. Beyond the two daily puzzles there is an archive of more than 6,000 crosswords and some variety puzzles, and you earn achievements and coins as you solve. The app is free on iPhone, iPad and Android. It shows video ads, and a paid Thirty Day Pass hides them. Coins and puzzle packs are sold in the app too.

It has been on the App Store since 2017 and suits solvers who know their celebrities and TV better than their crosswordese, or anyone who wants a lighter daily grid than a newspaper crossword.

How to play Daily POP Crossword Puzzles

  1. Open the app and pick one of the day's two dated crosswords.
  2. Tap a square to select it and read its clue at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Type the answer; tap the square again to switch between across and down.
  4. Use show errors or reveal letter or word if you are stuck.
  5. Fill every square to finish, then come back the next day for the new pair.

Tips

  • Start with the pop-culture clues you know: names often break open a corner.
  • Short fill words of three and four letters repeat often in these grids, so learn the common ones.
  • Turn on Smart Step so the cursor skips filled squares and moves to the next open word.
  • Work back through the archive on days when two puzzles are not enough.
