The Daily Kakuro is a free cross-sum puzzle published every day on SudokuWiki.org by Andrew Stuart, who also created Str8ts. Each puzzle has a running number and a grade, and you can solve it on the page or print it.

About Daily Kakuro (SudokuWiki)

SudokuWiki.org is Andrew Stuart's long-running site about solving strategies for sudoku and related number puzzles. Alongside its solvers and articles it publishes a set of daily puzzles, among them the Daily Kakuro, whose page was created in January 2023.

Kakuro is a crossword made of numbers. Each white run of cells has a clue giving its total, and you fill the run with the digits 1 to 9, without repeating a digit inside a run. The page lets you type numbers straight into the grid, with a timer, undo, a check button, pencil notes and an optional on-screen number pad for phones, or print the puzzle for pencil and paper. Below the grid, a picker shows the solutions of the last 30 days, and Yesterday's Solution is one button away.

The grade follows the day of the week: Gentle on Sunday and Tuesday, Moderate on Wednesday and Saturday, Tough on Friday and Diabolical on Monday and Thursday. Supporters with All-Access can see every grade every day. Each puzzle has a number, such as 5713 for 21 October 2026, and the comments thread below has regular solvers comparing notes.

The new grid does not arrive at midnight: on 22 October the puzzle of 21 October was still being served after midnight UTC, as on SudokuWiki's other dailies, which change at about 03:00 to 03:15 UTC.

It suits number-puzzle fans who have outgrown sudoku and want a daily grid with a clear difficulty ladder.

Tips

  • Learn the unique combinations: two cells totalling 3 must be 1 and 2, two cells totalling 17 must be 8 and 9.
  • Start where a short run crosses a run with few possible combinations.
  • Expect the hardest grids on Monday and Thursday.
  • Type more than one digit in a cell, or start with 0, to keep pencil notes.
