Daily Binairo Plus 8x8, puzzle #467 at Level 1: given black and white circles with X signs between cells, beside the timer, Check and Hint buttons

SudokuWiki's Daily Binairo serves four small binary puzzles each day: a 6x6 and an 8x8 Binairo, and a Plus version of each where signs between cells say whether two neighbours match. Each comes at three levels. Fill every cell with a black or white circle so no more than two of a colour sit together and each row and column is balanced.

About Daily Binairo (SudokuWiki)

Binairo, also known as Takuzu or binary puzzle, is a logic grid that Andrew Stuart's SudokuWiki.org added to its set of daily puzzles. The page offers four boards a day: 6x6 and 8x8 in the plain version, and 6x6 and 8x8 Binairo Plus. Each board shares one puzzle number for the day and comes at three levels, rated one to three stars. Every puzzle has a single solution and can be played on the page or printed.

The rules fit in three lines. No more than two circles of the same colour may sit next to each other in a row or column. Every row and column must hold the same number of black and white circles. In the plain version no two rows and no two columns may be identical; in Plus, an equals sign between two cells means they share a colour and an X means they differ.

A timer runs while you play, and Check and Hint buttons sit beside the board. Level 1 of the 6x6 takes a minute or two; the three-star 8x8 boards ask for longer chains of deduction. Regular solvers discuss each day's numbered boards in the comments below the puzzles, and the author answers there.

It suits players who like LinkedIn's Tango or other no-guessing grids and want more of them every day, at a difficulty they choose.

How to play Daily Binairo (SudokuWiki)

  1. Open Daily Binairo on SudokuWiki and choose a board: 6x6, 8x8, or one of the Plus versions.
  2. Pick Level 1, 2 or 3 above the board.
  3. Click cells to place black or white circles.
  4. Never put three circles of the same colour in a row or column.
  5. Give every row and column equal numbers of each colour; in Plus, follow the = and X signs between cells.
  6. Use Check to test your board, or Hint when you are stuck, then move on to the next board or print them.

Tips

  • Look first for two equal circles side by side: the cells at both ends of the pair must be the other colour.
  • A gap between two equal circles must be the other colour.
  • Once a row holds half of one colour, fill the rest with the other.
  • In Plus boards, an X next to a known cell settles its neighbour at once.
