Couples is a daily word chain. You get the first and last words and the first letter of each word between, and fill in the rest so that each word pairs with the next to make a common phrase, like light weight, weight loss and loss leader. You have three hearts, and an archive holds the earlier chains.
About Couples
Couples is a daily word chain game by Xiomara and Osebo, published under the Special Games name since 2024. Each puzzle gives you the first and last words of a six-word chain, and the four words in between are blanks with only their first letter shown. Every missing word has to make a common phrase with the word before it and another with the word after it. The chain for 20 October 2026 ran light, weight, loss, leader, board, walk: light weight, weight loss, loss leader, leaderboard and boardwalk.
You tap a row and type the rest of each word, then submit the whole chain. Three hearts above the board are your three tries. After a wrong try the letters are marked: green for a letter that is right, orange for one that is wrong, so a near miss still tells you where to look. The puzzle is numbered and the same for every player, and a new one goes up each day at 4pm Pacific, 7pm Eastern. You play the day's chain once; the end screen shows the full chain, your play and win streaks, a share button and a link to past puzzles.
The given first letters make it gentler than chains that hide the whole word, and the length of each row tells you how long the word is. It suits people who like compound words and stock phrases more than spelling puzzles: the trick is thinking of what a word commonly goes with on both sides. The page is plain and quick, with a dark mode, no ads and no sign-up.
How to play Couples
- Read the first and last words of the day's chain and the first letter of each missing word.
- Think of a word that makes a common phrase with the word above it and another with the word below it.
- Tap each row and type the rest of its word; the row's length tells you how many letters it has.
- Submit the chain once every word is filled in.
- Green letters are right and orange ones wrong; use them to fix your next try before your three hearts run out.
- Share your score, then open past puzzles to play earlier chains.

Tips
- Work from both ends: a word that fits the last word narrows the middle fast.
- The phrase always reads top to bottom, as in weight loss, not loss weight.
- Compound words count as phrases, so leaderboard and boardwalk are fair links.
- Use the first letter and the row length together: they rule out most guesses before you type.
