The Country Scales board on desktop for Day 29, leg 1 of 10, asking whether Poland or Spain has the larger land area

Country Scales is a daily geography quiz from Ten Minute Games. Each day brings ten pairs of countries, and for each pair you tap the one with the larger population or the larger land area. The pairs get closer and the countries less familiar as the round goes on.

About Country Scales

Country Scales is one of the daily geography games on Ten Minute Games, a small site made by Istvan Kreisz. Everyone gets the same round each day, and a new one starts at 00:00 UTC. There is no sign-up, and every past day can still be played from the day picker at the top of the board.

A round has ten legs. Each leg shows two countries side by side, with their outlines and flags, and asks one question: which has the larger population, or which has the larger land area. You tap a country to answer, and there is only one try per pair. You can also skip a leg. The first pairs are fairly easy, but the gaps between the two countries get smaller and the countries less well known as you go.

The game keeps your results and streaks in your own browser only, so clearing the browser's storage or moving to another device starts them again. It suits anyone who likes geography quizzes and wants something short: a round takes a few minutes, and the mix of population and area questions means a big country on the map is not always the right answer.

How to play Country Scales

  1. Open Country Scales on Ten Minute Games; the day's round starts on the first leg.
  2. Read the question above the pair: larger population or larger land area.
  3. Tap the country you think is bigger by that measure. You have one try per pair; both figures then show, or you can skip a leg instead.
  4. Go through all ten legs; the pairs get closer and the countries less familiar as you go.
  5. Come back after midnight UTC for the next round, or pick an earlier day from the day menu.

Tips

  • Check which measure each leg asks about before you tap: a country with a large area can have a small population.
  • Countries with large deserts, tundra or ice tend to win on land area but lose on population.
  • The last legs are the closest pairs, so slow down there rather than at the start.

Questions

What time does Country Scales reset?

A new round starts every day at midnight UTC, and the page shows a countdown to the next one.

Do I need an account to play Country Scales?

No. There is no sign-up. Your results and streaks are kept in your browser only.

Can I play earlier days?

Yes. Every past day stays free to play, chosen from the day menu above the board.

What happens after each answer?

The game shows both countries' figures, marks your tap right or wrong and moves on with Next leg. After ten legs you see your score out of ten as a row of green and red squares that you can share.
