Chess Peace classic 4x4 puzzle: a rook and a queen placed on an odd-shaped board, dots showing the squares each attacks, the other pieces waiting below

Chess Peace is a calm logic puzzle app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. You get a handful of chess pieces and a small, oddly shaped board, and place them all so that no piece attacks another. A free Daily Puzzle arrives every day with a streak and a share grid, beside more than 26,500 other puzzles in five modes.

About Chess Peace

Chess Peace is made by Sam Shepherd and came to the App Store in April 2026; it runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac and syncs progress over iCloud. It needs no chess skill: the pieces only bring their moves, and the app teaches how each one moves before you start.

In the classic puzzle you get one of each piece, such as a king, queen, rook, bishop, knight and pawn, and a small, oddly shaped board from four by four up to six by six squares. Place them all so that no piece can capture another. Each puzzle has one solution, and an optional overlay shows the squares every piece covers. Four other modes change the rule: Multiples adds copies of the same piece, Two-Colour has white and black pieces that only threaten each other, Islands splits the puzzle over two boards that only the knight can jump between, and Presets reveals some occupied squares without saying which piece stands there.

The Daily Puzzle sits at the top of the home screen and is free for everyone. A calendar keeps past dailies, a streak counts the days in a row, and when you finish you can share a Wordle-style grid with your time, moves and hints. Game Center leaderboards for total solves, daily streak and fastest solve are there for those who sign in, and can be skipped. The app is free with no ads and no account, works offline, and includes 250 free puzzles; the rest of the collection is a one-time purchase with no subscription.

It suits players of Queens, Royal Family and star battle grids who like a no-attack placement puzzle, and anyone who wants a short, quiet puzzle a day.

How to play Chess Peace

  1. Open Chess Peace and tap the Daily Puzzle at the top of the home screen.
  2. Look at the row of pieces you must place and the shape of the board.
  3. Drag each piece onto a square; the optional overlay shows which squares it attacks.
  4. Move pieces until every one is placed and none can capture another.
  5. Share your solve grid and keep your daily streak going.

Tips

  • Place the queen first: it covers the most squares and has the fewest safe spots.
  • Knights fit in the gaps other pieces leave, so place them last.
  • Turn on the possible-moves overlay to see the safe squares at a glance.
