ChangeWord is a daily word ladder puzzle. Each day has three quick stages in which you change a start word into a target word by replacing or inserting letters, and every word along the way must be valid. Each move costs a point and each hint adds one, so the lowest total wins. It plays in English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch and Swedish.
About ChangeWord
ChangeWord takes the classic word ladder and turns it into a daily three-stage puzzle. Every stage shows a target word, the start word below it, and a tray holding the target's letters. You drag a letter from the tray onto the start word, either replacing a letter or inserting it, and every word you make along the way has to be a real word. Most of the time you will use every letter, but sometimes there is a shortcut.
Scoring works like golf. Each move is one point, each hint adds another point, and lower is better. The three stages run from easy to medium to hard, and your daily total is compared with the average of everyone who played that day. A Back button undoes a move and a History panel lists the words you made.
The game keeps your current and longest streak, games played, average score and a score distribution, and the Archives page lets you play earlier days. You can switch between English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch and Swedish, each with its own puzzle and separate progress. There is no sign-up and no advertising on the page.
ChangeWord suits players who like word ladders such as Weaver and want a short daily set with a clear score.
How to play ChangeWord
- Open changeword.org and look at the target word and the start word below it.
- Drag a letter from the tray onto the start word to replace one of its letters, or drop it between letters to insert it.
- Keep each new word valid and go on, one move at a time, until you reach the target.
- Use Back to undo a move, or Hint if stuck, knowing a hint adds a point.
- Finish all three stages with as few points as you can, then share your result.
