Celeble's daily board after three guesses, Tom Hanks, Lionel Messi and Barack Obama, with birth year, birthplace, domain, subdomain, gender and alive cells coloured green or grey

Celeble is a daily celebrity guessing game. Each day there is one hidden famous person, from music, film, TV, sport, politics, business or fashion, and you have ten guesses. Every guess is compared with the answer on birth year, birthplace, field, subfield, gender and whether they are alive, with yellow marking a near miss.

About Celeble

Celeble works like the attribute-matching -dle games, applied to famous people of every kind. You type the name of a celebrity, pick it from the suggestions, and the game lines up your guess against the hidden one. Each column turns green for a match, yellow for a close one and grey otherwise.

The columns are birth year (yellow within five years, with an older or younger hint), birthplace (green for the same country, yellow for the same region or continent), field (music, film, sport, politics, business, fashion or TV), a narrower subfield such as actor, soccer or president, gender, and whether they are still alive. You have ten guesses. When the round ends you see a short trivia fact and a Wikipedia link, and each past answer gets its own archive page.

The puzzle changes at midnight UTC and is the same for everyone. Each answer is drawn from a bank of about 350 people, so familiar names come round again now and then. Guesses, streaks and stats are kept in your browser under a random player name, with no account, and a finished round adds your points to a live daily leaderboard.

Celeble suits players who follow famous people across many fields rather than only one, and who like narrowing down a person from facts. The site is free and carries Google ads.

How to play Celeble

  1. Open celeble.io and start typing the name of a famous person.
  2. Pick the name from the suggestions and press Guess.
  3. Read the colours: green is a match, yellow is close, grey is wrong, and the birth year says whether the answer is older or younger.
  4. Use birth year, birthplace, field, subfield, gender and alive status to narrow the field.
  5. Find the celebrity within ten guesses, then share your grid and come back after midnight UTC.

Tips

  • Start with someone well known in a broad field to find the right domain first.
  • A yellow birth year means within five years; the older or younger hint pins the decade in a few guesses.
  • A yellow birthplace means the same region or continent, so switch countries within it next.
  • Once the field is green, guess people from the same field to work on subfield and birthplace.
  • Alive status alone can rule out many historic names early.
