Cast-ablanca's Daily Challenge for 28 October 2026: Sunset Boulevard with Dee Rees directing, the $30M budget and the first actors offered for the role of Joe Gillis

Cast-ablanca is a movie casting game where you play the producer. Each day's Daily Challenge hands everyone the same screenplay and director; you spin for a talent era and financing, hire four actors under budget, and get a score built from awards, box office, reviews and fit. An archive mode lets you pick your own script.

About Cast-ablanca

Cast-ablanca puts you in the producer's chair for a remake of a well known film. You take a screenplay, attach a director, then fill four acting roles from a pool of actors drawn from a given era, all while keeping an eye on how much money is left. When the package is set, the film is released and you see the reviews, the box office and the awards it collects.

The Daily Challenge is numbered and shared: every player on a given day gets the same screenplay and the same attached director. A spin then sets the talent era and the financing, so the casting itself is where your choices differ from everyone else's. Your result can be shared as a short text or a downloadable card, and the game keeps stats on your daily runs.

The score blends awards, box office, critic reviews, cast chemistry, how well each actor fits their role, how well the director fits the package and how much budget cushion you leave. The rules note that a pricier actor is not always the better choice, and that stretching the budget to the limit is noticed. Outside the daily, the Archives mode lets you pick any screenplay and director and cast your own version. The site says it is a free, unofficial fan game with no ties to any studio or estate.

Tips

  • Read the director's pitch closely: the actors who match the tone they describe tend to score better on fit.
  • Do not spend every dollar. Budget cushion counts toward the score, and the game warns that stretching the budget to the maximum is noticed.
  • Use the actor tags as clues to chemistry with the rest of the cast rather than picking the biggest names.
  • Try a few Archives runs first to learn how the scoring reacts before your daily attempt.

Yes. Each numbered Daily Challenge gives every player the same screenplay and attached director. The talent era and financing come from a spin, and the casting is up to you.

When does a new Daily Challenge start?

The game counts its days by the date in New York, so a new challenge starts at midnight US Eastern Time.

The Daily Challenge is one run a day, but the Archives mode lets you pick any screenplay and director and play as often as you like.

Does it cost anything?

No. The site describes itself as a free, unofficial fan game.
