on bookdle.vercel.app

Bookdle is a free daily word game for book lovers, made by the book recommendation account Bookworm. It plays like Wordle, but every answer is tied to books: a literary word, an author's name or a word from a famous title. After three tries you can open a clue.
About Bookdle
Bookdle is a books-themed clone of Wordle created by Bookworm, an account that shares book recommendations on Instagram and X. Its daily words started on 26 February 2023 and come from a fixed list of 368 bookish answers, so every reader gets the same word on the same day. The list has been running in a loop since early 2024, so a year's words come round again.
You have six tries to find a five letter word. After each guess the tiles turn green for a right letter in the right spot, yellow for a letter in the word but elsewhere, and grey for a letter that is not in it. The answers are related to books, authors, characters, poems and literature: an ebook, a journal, or the missing word in a title such as Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
The twist is the clue. After three tries a locked clue opens, usually a short definition or a book title with the answer blanked out, which helps when the letters alone do not give it away. There is also a hard mode, a dark mode, a high contrast mode and a stats screen, and you can share your result grid.
It runs in the browser on a phone or a desktop with no account, and there are no ads on the page; a Buy me a coffee link under the keyboard is the only ask.
How to play Bookdle
- Open Bookdle and type a five letter word with the on-screen or physical keyboard.
- Press Enter and read the colours: green is the right letter in the right place, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
- After three tries, open the clue from the magnifying glass for a hint about the book-related answer.
- Keep guessing until you find the word or use all six tries, then share your result.

Tips
- Think about book words first: titles, authors' surnames and terms like novel, prose or genre.
- Save the clue for when the letters stall; it often points to a specific book title.
- Common Wordle openers still work, since every answer is a five letter word.
- Remember answers can be names, so a capitalised word you would not expect in Wordle may fit.
- A few easy words come with no clue at all; the locked clue then just says the word is easy.
