Beatdle turns Wordle's guess-and-feedback format into rhythm. You listen to the day's one-bar drum pattern, place kick, snare and hi-hat hits on a 16-step grid, and each guess marks hits green, yellow or grey. You may replay the target once per guess, and there are six guesses.
About Beatdle
Beatdle takes the guess-and-colour feedback of Wordle and applies it to rhythm. The answer each day is a one-bar drum pattern on three instruments, kick, snare and hi-hat, laid out on a sequencer grid of sixteen steps. You listen to it, then click cells on the grid to place hits where you think they fall.
When you submit, each hit you placed is marked green if it is in the right step for that instrument, yellow if the instrument plays elsewhere in the bar, and grey if there is nothing left to match. Green hits lock into your next guess. You have six attempts, and you can play the target beat only once per guess: it loops while you listen, but once you stop it you have to submit before hearing it again, so the game tests your memory as much as your ear. A limit on the number of notes stops you filling the whole grid.
The beat is built in your browser from the date, using weights that make it sound like a real groove: kicks lean towards the downbeats, snares towards the backbeats and hi-hats towards even subdivisions. Every player gets the same beat on the same date, it changes at local midnight, and past beats cannot be replayed. The game is free, carries ads around the play area, and needs no account; your stats and streak stay in your browser.
How to play Beatdle
- Press play to hear the day's target beat; it loops until you stop it.
- Click cells in the kick, snare and hi-hat rows to place hits on the sixteen steps.
- Submit your guess and read the colours: green is right, yellow means the instrument plays at another step, grey means no hit there.
- Listen once more, move the yellow hits and keep the green ones, which stay locked.
- Match the whole beat within six guesses, then share your grid of coloured squares.
Tips
- Count the bar in four groups of four steps while you listen; kicks often land on step 1 and snares on steps 5 and 13.
- Map the hi-hat first: it is usually the most regular pattern and frees your attention for kick and snare.
- Stay on one listen until you are sure, since you cannot replay without submitting.
Questions
When does Beatdle reset?
At midnight in your own time zone, according to its FAQ; the page reloads itself when the date changes.
Can I play old Beatdle puzzles?
No. There is one beat per day and past beats are not available once the day ends.
Why can I listen only once per guess?
It is the core rule: the game tests your musical memory, so you hear the loop as long as you like, but after stopping it you have to submit before listening again.
