The Beat the Bots puzzle of 23 October 2026 on a desktop: a pixel-art workshop with an easel, palette, anvil and hammer, under counters showing the AI took 6 guesses

Beat the Bots is a free daily word game built on an AI picture. Each night at midnight UTC a new image is drawn from a hidden theme and five words, and you tap words from a pool of 30 until you have found all five. You win by needing fewer guesses than the Bot, which played the same pool before you.

About Beat the Bots

Beat the Bots is a daily word puzzle played on beatthebots.ai. Each night at midnight UTC an AI model picks a theme and five words, and an image model paints a picture from them. That picture is the day's puzzle for everyone.

Under the picture sits a pool of 30 words: the five from the prompt and 25 decoys. Tap the ones you think were in the prompt: a right word turns green, a wrong one red. Counters at the top show how many guesses the Bot took, how many you have used and how many of the five you have found. The Bot is GPT-5, which looked at the same picture and guessed from the same pool before the day opened.

When you find the fifth word, the game shows the theme's title, the full prompt behind the picture, your guesses beside the Bot's in order, and a row of squares to share. On 23 October 2026 the theme was Artisan Workshop: an easel, an anvil, a palette, a brush and an old vase painted in pastels, and the Bot slipped once on "hand" before finding them all in six.

The themes can be literal or loose, so the picture is a starting point rather than an answer key, and some of the five are small details in a corner. The style of the pictures changes from week to week, and players vote on next week's style.

The game is free and has no ads; its terms say it is made by one person, and a Ko-fi page takes voluntary support. You can play as a guest, or sign in with Google or an email link to keep a streak and join the leaderboard. The History page keeps every puzzle since March 2025, each playable once, so a missed day can be played later. It suits players who like reading a picture closely and guessing whole words rather than letters.

How to play Beat the Bots

  1. Open beatthebots.ai, close the welcome box with Play and look at the day's AI-drawn picture.
  2. Read the pool of 30 words below it and tap one you think was in the prompt that made the picture.
  3. Watch the colour: green means the word was one of the five, red means it was a decoy.
  4. Keep tapping until all five words are found, using what the found words tell you about the theme.
  5. Compare your guess count with the Bot's: fewer guesses than the Bot is a win, and the end card shows the theme, the full prompt and the Bot's guesses.

Tips

  • Start with the objects you can plainly see in the picture before reaching for mood or style words.
  • Look into the corners and the background: one of the five is often a small detail rather than the main subject.
  • Once two or three words are green, think about the theme they share; the rest often follow from it.
  • Check the Bot's count before you start: when it is low, the picture is literal and every wrong tap costs you.
  • Sign in before you play if you want the day to count toward your streak and the leaderboard.
