Bearing's Home round on 30 October 2026 after locking in: the walker's true path drawn back to its start flag, a missed yellow guess and a score of 3

Bearing is a daily sense-of-direction game in five rounds. In each you watch a dot wander a few legs, then answer something the journey never showed: tap where it began, point home on a compass ring, place yourself on a map after a first-person ride, judge the shortcut's length, or pick the shorter path at a fork.

About Bearing

Bearing tests the sense of direction you use when you walk out of a station and have to guess which way to go. Each of the day's five rounds starts with a short journey you only watch. The start flag fades and the trail dissolves behind the walker, so there is nothing to memorise from the screen; you have to keep track of where you are.

The rounds each ask a different question. Home: tap where the walk started. Face: tap the compass ring where home lies. Ride: the journey plays in first person, then you place yourself on a north-up map, which is the hardest round and scored more gently. Span: a ray points home and you mark the straight-line distance along it. Track: at a fork, pick the shorter way home against the clock. After you lock in, the true path draws itself so you can see how close you were.

Every round scores 0 to 100 and the day's result is their average, shared as five coloured squares with a challenge link. The rounds are seeded so everyone gets the same journeys on the same day, with one attempt each, and a practice mode drills any single round across twelve difficulty levels. It is by Yuki Andersen, who also makes Ballast and Well Putt.

When you finish, the results screen shows how many players have run the daily in the last 24 hours, the best score among them and where yours ranks. These rivals are anonymous counts. Every finished round also adds to an XP rank kept in your browser, and the practice picker shows your average and level for each of the five skills.

How to play Bearing

  1. Open Bearing and start the daily gauntlet.
  2. Watch each round's journey until the walker stops; nothing needs tapping before then.
  3. Answer the round's question by tapping the field, the compass ring, the map, the ray or a path.
  4. Press Lock In to commit and see the true path.
  5. After five rounds, read your average score and share your trail of squares.

Tips

  • Count the turns as the walker moves and keep a rough running direction home in your head.
  • On the compass round, do not just point back along the last leg; the earlier turns matter.
  • On the first-person ride, watch out for swapping left and right when you move to the north-up map.
  • Landmarks in the ride are scenery; the answer is rarely on one.

Questions

Is Bearing the same for everyone?

Yes. The five daily journeys are seeded so every player gets the same ones that day.

When does a new Bearing gauntlet start?

At midnight on your own device's clock; the game shows a countdown to it.

How is Bearing scored?

Each round scores 0 to 100 for how close you were, and the day's result is the average of the five.

Is there a practice mode?

Yes. Practice gives endless rounds, mixed or one skill at a time, with a twelve-level difficulty ladder.
