Afterglow round 1 of 5 after locking in: the player's teal mix above the day's light blue target, with H S B values for each and a score of 5.6 out of 10

Afterglow is a daily colour memory game from Greatest Games. Each of the day's five colours fills the card for two and a half seconds and then disappears; you rebuild it with hue, saturation and brightness sliders and score up to 10 points for how close you land. There is no way to fail, only a score out of 50 to beat.

About Afterglow

Afterglow is one of the daily puzzles on Greatest Games, a site of original word and logic games that publishes a new set at midnight US Eastern. Its idea is simple: a colour fills the card for two and a half seconds, then it is hidden, and you have to recreate it from memory.

You work with three sliders. Hue picks the family, saturation how vivid it is, and brightness how light or dark. When you lock in, the reveal puts your colour beside the real one and scores the round out of 10, judged on how different the two look to the eye rather than on raw slider values. Five rounds make a day, for a total out of 50, and finishing keeps your streak going.

There is no fail state, so it suits a quick daily test of visual memory rather than a puzzle to grind through. Past days are listed by date in an archive: a free account plays the last seven days, and Greatest Games Plus plays them all.

How to play Afterglow

  1. Open Afterglow and press Start for round one.
  2. Study the colour while it fills the card; it disappears after two and a half seconds.
  3. Use the hue, saturation and brightness sliders to rebuild the colour from memory.
  4. Lock in your guess to see both colours side by side and your score out of 10.
  5. Play all five rounds for the day's total out of 50.

Tips

  • Name the colour to yourself in a few words while you look, such as 'soft blue-purple, fairly light', and set the sliders from that description.
  • Set hue first, then brightness, then saturation.
  • Memory tends to make colours look more vivid than they were, so when in doubt pick the slightly duller setting.
  • Avoid looking at other strong colours between seeing the card and rebuilding it.
